My Second Guest Post: Ms. Grisamer.

The first person to respond to my plea for outside artwork (other than my wife) is Ms. Grisamer. Ms. Grisamer is a fellow law student at The University of Tulsa. She created this picture in an art class some few years ago...

She used a Sharpie (TM) to create this design. I, personally, think that this design exhibits incredible pen control. I have a hard time writing a single word with a Sharpie (TM) without having it bleed all over the paper. So kudos to Ms. Grisamer for creating a fantabulous piece of artwork. This must have taken forever to finish!

On a personal note, I plan to have my painting almost finished (ready to show) by the end of the week... Until then, enjoy this piece of art and feel free to browse the other 4 original pieces exhibited exclusively on SemiArtsy.

If YOU have anything that YOU would like me to post, send it to me. I would like to get to the point that I am posting a piece of art once a day, everyday. That might take some time, but with YOUR help, it is certainly possible.

Until the weekend....!

My first guest post: MY WIFE.

My wife painted this at work. I think that she did a really good job with it, especially considering the fact that it was her first painting. She is asleep right now so I can't ask her, but it looks like she used a sponge technique for her background. Personally, my favorite part of this painting is the background.

The only utensil (is that the proper word?) that I have used thus far in my paintings is a standard brush; I should really start using sponges and metal pieces and what not.

Well, as promised, my next painting will be posted in about a week. Until then, enjoy this painting!

Post #3, when I really should be studying...

I have the world on my shoulders with finals coming up in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!... but, there is always time for art. This was my second painting EVER; I finished it about a year ago. My wife and I have two cats, so I decided to use them as my captive subjects! I started this painting by painting my larger cat first (the black and white cat, Max). After I was done, I realized that I had barely left enough room for my smaller cat (the calico, Maggie). I ended up being quite pleased with the way that the right side of the painting turned out.

I am less proud of the left side of my painting. I feel that I did well with getting the colors of Maggie's fur down, though. I think that she looks like a human in a cat suit. For some reason, I had a really tough time with her face. I just didn't have enough room to do what I wanted, so I did my best and quit after awhile. I really need to find more patience when I am working with paint. I get really mad when I make a mistake with my brush. After awhile, I just quit - NOT GOOD!

Well, that is all for now. I will do my darnedest to get my third (and current painting) finished and posted within the week. I am also thinking of making this blog less about my paintings and more about other people's paintings. If you want me to post something, let me know: el4stros@gmail.com. I know that my wife wants me to post something that she did, so I am going to do that when she finally finishes up.

Until then, Criminal Law is calling my poor name...

My first attempt at painting. I finished this about a year ago.

This is the VERY first painting that I ever attempted. There are tons of obvious flaws with it: 1) The numbers look like a baby wrote them in, 2) I didn't attempt to add too much detail, 3) I used white Behr paint (non acrylic - non oil) from Wal-Mart to get the grey color, which DIDN'T work, and 4) The work is very, very basic.

On the other hand: 1) It was my VERY first attempt at painting, 2) I did it to impress my wife (which worked), and 3) It is an easy way to remember the date of my anniversary!

I have another painting that I have finished since then... I will post it in the coming days. Until then, I am working on something right now. Finals are coming up, so it might not get done for a good three weeks!

My first post.

This is my first post on the Semi-Artsy Law Student blog. I want to use this space to showcase some of my work. I really enjoy looking at and working with art. I picked up painting about a year ago. I have never taken a painting lesson, which might become extremely clear very, very soon. When I have time away from the books, I like to paint. I openly accept criticisms, so if you have a compliment or otherwise, please let me know.

I am hesitant to post a lot of my work on here for a few reasons: 1) I do not particularly think that my art is good, and 2) I don't want people to think that I think that my art is particularly good.

So, I guess that I am starting this blog for a few reasons, which outweigh some of my concerns: 1) I like art and want to view the art of others (even if it is crap), and 2) We should not worry too much about what others think about our art. After all, art and beauty are and always will be subjective.

If you are interested in any of my work, please feel free to contact me. I have never really thought of selling any of my work, but if offers are made, I assume that I would be a fool to refuse.

Enjoy!
