Superbowl Sunday

I am sitting around, waiting for all of the Superbowl pre-game garbage to pass (it never seems to pass quickly enough - it's incredible how much mileage FOX/ESPN/ABC/NFL can get out of one game).  A few days ago, I had just finished a few paintings, and I realized that I have been painting a lot of faces over the last year or so.  When I realized this - I felt like I needed to break out of the mold a little bit, and start working with patterns, lines and more color.  I ended up with this:

It is a little more busy than I had originally intended.  I like it, though, but I don't think that you will see these colors again from me anytime soon.

I have been thinking a lot about all of the really good, unforgettable paintings that I have ever encountered.  I have come to the conclusion that all of my favorite paintings are masteries of light and color.  As such, I have been working on my coloring and color mixing techniques.

I have a really long way to go until I get to anything worth feeling seriously happy about, but I like the progress that I seem to be making.

I was once inspired by a photo of an old Native American male.  After some painting, my inspiration changed to an image that I had in my head of a Native American female.  After some more painting, this became my inspiration...

I think that it ended up looking a little cartoon-ish, but I really enjoyed painting the headdress.

I'm back...

... and I have a goal this year to start back up on this blog.  I recently realized that I had completely let my painting get away from me.  After a few snow days - I have gotten back in the painting saddle.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present... one of my newest paintings...
